SECRETARY OF STATE FOR SCOTLAND TO SPEAK AT NEXT MONTH'S OIL & GAS UK SUPPLY CHAIN CONFERENCE AND AWARDS
| Date: | 30 Oct 2008 | | Details: | Secretary of State for Scotland, the Rt Hon Jim Murphy MP, has been confirmed as the principal speaker at the Oil & Gas UK supply chain conference in Aberdeen on November 12.
The Minister, in his first public engagement in the city, will also be guest of honour at the oil and gas industry trade body's annual dinner later that evening when he will present the prestigious Oil & Gas UK Awards.
Malcolm Webb, Oil & Gas UK chief executive, said: "I am delighted to welcome the Secretary of State for Scotland to Aberdeen on his first official visit to the city. His participation at both our conference and awards ceremony acknowledges the significance of the offshore oil and gas industry in the UK and its contribution to national and regional economies."
The Oil & Gas UK Supply Chain Conference, sponsored by Shell U.K. Limited, will examine the case for sustaining the oil and gas industry supply chain in the long term, not only to support domestic offshore activity but also to develop the UK as a centre of excellence for export.
Its key themes will reflect the issues vital to the success of the UK oil and gas supply chain: the emergence of alternative business models with new operational practices adapting to the basin's advancing maturity, industry measures to enhance supply chain sustainability and cross industry learning.
Amongst the line-up of high profile speakers are Bob Keiller of PSN and John Gallagher of Shell U.K. Limited, as well as representatives from leading industry businesses such as Petrofac, AMEC, OPITO- The Oil & Gas Academy, Venture Production and Subsea7.
In the evening, Oil & Gas UK will be awarding prizes in five categories at its annual dinner: Overall Excellence, which recognises outstanding achievement by young people working in the UK offshore oil and gas industry; Young Technician of the Year, which recognises the vital contribution of the industry's young technicians; Mentoring, which recognises the important role mentors play in passing on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation of oil and gas workers; Joint Supply Chain Business Innovation, which recognises the creation and implementation of novel contracting strategies; and Supply Chain Professional Development, which recognises outstanding commitment made by an organisation to the professional development of its supply chain practitioners.
The Oil & Gas UK conference and awards take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Wednesday, 12 November. For further information or to make reservations, please visit: www.oilandgasuk.co.uk
