Announcement of New ITF Call for Proposals - Decommissioning

Date:14 Aug 2008
Details:Following on from a successful Theme Day held in Aberdeen on 13th June 2008, ITF are pleased to announce the launch of a new Call for Proposals to the international technology development community on 'Decommissioning'.

Over the next two decades the oil and gas industry will begin to decommission many of the installations that have been producing oil and gas in the North Sea, this includes small and large steel platforms, subsea and floating equipment. This is a complex process which will represent a challenge to the industry on many fronts encompassing technological, economic, and environmental and health and safety issues.

Some 470 installations, 10,000 kilometers of pipelines, 15 onshore terminals and around 5,000 wells are part of the infrastructure that will eventually need to be decommissioned. Total costs involved in decommissioning the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) are estimated at £15-20 billion.

Topics included within the Call are:

· Mapping Hazardous Materials

· Well Plug and Abandonment

· Hydrocarbon Free

· Facilities and Pipeline Cleaning

· Removal

· Legacy and Monitoring

The Theme Day was held in close collaboration with the Oil and Gas UK Seminar on Decommissioning; the outputs of which were incorporated into the ITF workshop. An intensive facilitated workshop brought together ITF members, supply change providers, operators, service companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and research and academia players to discuss the challenges now facing the industry.

This Call for Proposals represents the technology needs of our Members, which include 14 leading oil and gas operating companies and 6 major service companies. If you have an innovative technology which addresses one or more of these technology needs, there may be up to 100% funding available to develop or trial your technology.

Further information is available for download from the ITF website including:

· Full Text of Call

· The Project Application Form

· The Project Presentation Template

· The Project Application Guidance notes

Please note that the closing date for submissions to this call is Monday 22nd September 2008.
